How to Raise an Antiracist

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Ibram X. Kendi has taken the publishing world by storm with his books addressing racism in American culture and beyond. His newest book, How to Raise an Antiracist, could equally be listed under the subheadings of sociology or parenting. Mindful parenting extends not just to treating our children as human beings but also to making certain that our actions are in line with treating everyone as human beings. Our actions as to how we are actively modeling antiracism have a large impact on our children, as well as society.

How to Raise an Antiracist is a great beginning book for any parent wanting to model a more empathetic, antiracist way of life. Kendi challenges parents in the same way he found himself challenged concerning the impacts of the choices we make, both consciously and unconsciously. Written in a conversational tone, anyone can grab a copy of the book and jump in. It’s a fast read with a plethora of citations and resources at the end.
