Isabella (Izzy) leads a double life. She has two sets of parents and two houses. She splits her time equally between the two worlds without ever feeling like she belongs fully to either. As events unfold, she realizes that is a metaphor for her life in general. What will it take to blend all of her halves together?
Sharon Draper has written a great middle grade novel in Blended (affiliate link). With lovely descriptive writing, Draper effectively builds tension between the sides in Izzy’s life while also emphasizing the positive aspects of her life. With real life topics for older elementary and middle school students such as living with parents who are divorced, race, and police brutality, Draper has crafted a book I would recommend to middle grade readers.
