Sometimes you can’t run from your past, no matter how far you go. Sometimes it follows you. Sometimes it burns so quickly it explodes…all over the internet.
Anna and her mother have moved hundreds of miles to start fresh. New school. New town. New last name. All social media deleted. But nothing on the internet is ever truly gone. When the rumors start at her new school, they spread like flames.
(Amazon affiliate link) Laura Bates’s The Burning is a current take on an age old theme – the slut shaming of girls and the damage it causes. The premise of the book is sound and the story initially draws the reader in. Secondary themes, though definitely related and supportive, felt forced and fell flat. Overall, the book is on an important and timely topic and worth a read.
