What was supposed to be a great leadership opportunity turns out to be a trip from Daniel’s nightmares. Awakened the first night of the trip to the sound of screams when a dam breaks, Daniel and the other kids begin a fight to survive. If they can’t work together, they may not all survive.
Rodman Philbrick’s (Amazon affiliate link) Wild River is a great short novel for reluctant readers. This is a middle grade book but it doesn’t refrain from addressing death (more than one character dies during the trip), bullying, and being yourself. With some fear-packed scenes of survival, the book will appeal to many kids.
